About Rishikesh

One can find untouched nature with high mountains and beautiful water falls. Rishikesh is a scenic town located on the banks of river Ganga and is an important access point to the famous pilgrim spots of the Himalayas such as Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.
There are innumerable yoga centers in Rishikesh as well, as such Rishikesh is known as “Yoga Capital of the World” and the 1960s, Rishikesh came in to the Western world's limelight as the place where the pop group Beatles met their guru, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Situated 24 km upstream from Haridwar, at the confluence of the Chandrabhaga and Ganga, Rishikesh has long been a spiritual centre. The climate here is continental type but its location in the foot hills gives it a pleasant weather throughout the year. One can visit Rishikesh any time of the year. The River side is dotted by the ashrams of Sadhus and sages. 


SHOPPING:   Being a pilgrimage place, the glamour of big shop bargains are absent but Rishikesh offers you handicraft items made of Shells, beads and pearls. Sarees, Kurtas, sheets and rugs can be purchased from here. You can buy these items from the Government approved  shop Sudha Chandan Mahal ( House of Rudraksha, Precious stones,etc). Rishikesh is also famous for its souvenirs.

Rishikesh is also a good starting point for treks to Himalayan pilgrimage centres Rishikesh has numerous ashrams, some of which are internationally recognized as centers of philosophical studies, yoga and meditation.

Rishikesh popularly means "the abode of the saints". According to mythology, the sage Rishi Raibhya sat on the banks of the Ganga and performed severe penance in the form of extremely autere yoga practices. He was rewarded when lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Rishikesh, thus giving the place its present name. Over the ages, saints have meditated at this peaceful spot with the soaring mountains looking down and the sacred Ganga flowing beside.

Shivanand Jhoola: Also known as Ram Jhoola, this is a recently completed suspension bridge which spans the river near Swarg Ashram.

Trekking at Rishikesh : Rishikesh can be made the base for treks into the Garhwal Himalayas offering a very wide range of trekking. One can do religious treks, scenic treks, botanical treks, treks to experience the land and its people – with the option of doing a low altitude trek or a high-altitude trek.Two popular treks out of Rishikesh are to Neelkanth from Swarg Ashram, 10 km, with option of using motor transport also, and Kunjapuri Temple, from Tapovan, again a distance of 10 km. Both temples are on hilltop and provide beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Garhwal has over 100 peaks more than of 6000 metre high.


Rafting In Rishikesh

Rishikesh has become a main centre of white water rafting in North India. Rishikesh Rafting has one specialty , Its Riverside Rafting camps on Ganga Beach,  Beach Camps are riverside Eco Camps located right on River Ganga , In Ganga Beach camps tents have bed facility separate toilets tents & Shower Tents, Electricity is not available in tents ,these camps use lanterns as light source, There are separate dining tents in Ganga Beach camps , Play area for beach volleyball, Separate Kitchen tents with staff provide  food to Guests.  There is silver color sand on banks of river Ganga ,that's why Camps near River Ganga are called Ganga Beach camps.


Transport & Communication

Air : The nearest airport is Dehradun (Jolly Grant), 25 kms. Vayudoot services operates from Delhi to Dehradun (Jolly Grant).
Rail: Rishikesh is connected by rail via Haridwar (24 kms), to Howrah, Bombay, Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi, Dehradun and other cities.
Road: By road Rishikesh to Haridwar 24 kms, Dehradun 47 kms, Mussoorie 77 kms, Badrinath 301 kms (Son Prayag), Kedarnath 228 kms, Gangotri 258 kms, Yamunotri 288 kms (Hanuman Chatti), Srinagar 105 kms, Joshimath 252 kms. 
Bus Services: Haridwar is connected by bus with Agra, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Kullu, Manli, Shimla, Rishikesh etc.
